How to get started

The first step in the recruitment process is simple – find a job that we’ve advertised online. Are you interested in it? If so, apply for it following the details on the online advertisement.

If you have the requested relevant skills for that job, we’ll ring you. This is when we’ll ask that you have the necessary qualifications and experience requested.

After this comes a face-to-face interview with a consultant. This is where we’ll get more details from you about your experience and which roles you prefer.

From there we move into some compliance and OH&S paperwork. We’ll also contact your references and make sure all your tickets and licenses are current and valid. If you’re an overseas worker, this will also include checking your passport and conducting a Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) check.

We take safety very seriously and so your next step is to be inducted into the Dash Construction Solutions OH&S and Workplace Policy.

Now it’s time for your trial period. You’ll be trialled with four different clients. We ask each of the four clients for feedback about your performance. We do this because we only accept the best. We only want to employ people with a professional and reliable attitude. Hopefully, you’ll want the same thing and endeavour to be part of a high-quality workforce that is renowned in the industry for trustworthiness.

If all four clients give positive feedback about your job performance – congratulations! Welcome to Dash Construction Solutions.

You will then be offered full-time / casual hours.
After that, it’s time to get to work.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DOES A LABOUR HIRE COMPANY DO?

Companies like Dash provide the construction industry with extra labour when companies don’t have enough staff, or the right staff, to solve labour requirements by themselves. We provide companies with tradies, general labourers, skilled and experienced labour.

DO I NEED A TAX FILE NUMBER (TFN)?

Short answer? Yes. This is your individual number used in your tax records. It’s important and you need one. Commencement of your employment with Dash requires you to complete a Tax File Number Declaration form. If you don’t know how to complete this form, go to the website of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO)

DO YOU PROVIDE OVERTIME WORK?

Yes, sometimes there is. Like so many things, this will depend on the site you work on. Some sites will provide you with an opportunity for overtime hours and you will be paid penalty rates accordingly. As you might already know, overtime gets offered to the best workers. So if this is something you want, its up to you to perform well on-site and show the client that you’re worth the overtime penalty rate.

I WANT TO WORK, WILL THERE BE CONSISTENT JOBS?

This largely depends on you. Each job you go to has the potential to become an extended placement or a full-time position with the client. So if you want consistent work, show up on time, do a good job and behave in a safe way. Everyone likes to work with people they get along with, so having a good attitude will also help you gain consistent work.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO BE PAID?

Rate of pay depends on the types of jobs you can do and that you are sent out to do. If you are a highly-skilled professional with nine years’ experience, with your own equipment and transport, you’ll earn more than you would if you are a general labourer with one years’ experience. Your experience, how long you’ve been with DASH, where the job site is located, feedback from our client and your overall performance can all have an effect on your rate of pay.

WHAT ABOUT SUPERANNUATION?

All Australian employers are legally obligated to make superannuation contributions to the wages of their employees. 9.5% of your salary is paid by Dash into a superannuation fund. You can choose any fund you want. The industry fund for building and construction is CBUS and you can join them by visiting their website. When you start working with Dash, you will be asked to provide your fund details.

HOW DO I GET PAID?

We transfer pay on the Thursday after the week you’ve worked. Your pay will arrive in your bank account not later than the Friday after pay is transferred (the next day). To get paid what right amount, you need to take the Dash timesheet with you when you go on-site and get it signed off by the site contact you’ve been provided with. The completed and signed timesheet must be submitted to our payroll department by 10 a.m. each Monday.

WHAT TYPES OF JOBS CAN I DO?

Check out the jobs section on the Dash website. If you can’t find a job that matches your skill-set, don’t worry. Simply ring our consultants and tell them what you’re looking for. Our consultants are the best in the industry when it comes to matching good candidates with good jobs.

WHAT ALLOWANCES CAN I CLAIM?

This depends on the job. Some sites will have a meal allowance or on-site allowances. We pay our causal employees a minimum daily fares and travel allowance.

IT’S MY FIRST DAY ON-SITE, WHAT DO I BRING?

Bring your General Construction Industry Card (the white card) and basic PPE such as steel cap boots, gloves, a high-visibility top and a hard hat.

HOW FAR DO I HAVE TO TRAVEL?

Your consultant will try to get you onto job sites that are close to where you live. However, you will be expected to travel to the jobs you will be provided with. For this reason, if you have your own transport then tell your consultant. This will make you more likely to be offered jobs on certain sites.
